1 .Will my curtains shrink?
Many curtain materials will shrink in both hot and cold water. At Curtain Clean we measure your long curtains for length and once they have been washed and dried we then rehem the curtains back to the original length provided that there is sufficient hem allowance to do so.
2 .Can you get all the mould out?
On most fabrics we can, but occasionally because of the dyes used in the fabrics, we will only be able to fade the mould stain. Until we test a piece of the material in the curtain we don't know if a curtain is made of a non colour fast material. All curtains are tested before cleaning.
3. Does cleaning affect the colours?
We find generally the whites are whiter and colours brighter.
4. How long does it take?
In most instances the curtains will be ready for return in 4 or 5 working days from receipt of curtains at our workshop. Often sooner.
For curtains that are couried in and out you will need to make allowance for the courier times. Usually we dispatch via Fastway and the return is next day after dispatch. This may vary in different area's and where Rural Delivery is involved.
If curtains are sent via our agents then the agents will be able to give an approximate return date.
Should you curtains where their is an urgency then if we are advised we will do everything we can to meet your deadline..
5. Can you remove cat spray, dog urine, wine stains, greasy hand marks, nicotine, smoke from a fire, road film, and kitchen grease.
Yes. We can also remove many other stains. (please ask) It is helpful to know what has caused the stains. We can also deodorize the curtains where they have been tainted by smells.
6. What curtains should I wash?
Because all curtains gather dust etc. we find it is usual to clean all the curtains in a room. There will be a discernable difference between clean and not clean.
7. How old can the curtains be?
There is no age limit and we have cleaned curtains that were well over 30 years old. Provided the material still has integrity to it then we can wash them.
8. How big can the curtains be?
At Curtain Clean we can handle curtains up to 5.5 meters high and 6.0 meters wide in a normal day. For curtain sizes greater than that please contact us.
9. What causes curtains to go mouldy?
The warmth of the sun causes curtains to warm up and to act like a glass house with the result that any bacteria on the material will thrive in the warmth and humidity around the curtain. Moisture on the window does not cause the mould, although it will contribute to the humidity around the curtain when the sun heats it up.
10. Can we put something on the curtain to prevent the mould in the future?
No, but you can help prevent the mould by thoroughly cleaning the windows and frames and then going over the cleaned surfaces with Janola bleach or a similar product. Care should be taken not to get these products on curtains or carpets, as damage may result. Another tip is to ensure there is plenty of space between the curtain and the wall, especially with blackout linnings. This helps the airflow and allows the curtains to cool.
11. Do we repair curtains?
Yes we do. Minor repairs are taken care of as part of our cleaning and curtain care process. Major repairs are priced separately, please ask. If a curtain is found to be in need of major repair we will always contact you first.
We can also alter your curtains and make replacement linings.
12. Do you restring Roman and Austrian Blinds.
Yes we do.
13. Do you fix vertical blinds?
Yes, some brands. Please ask.
14. Do you fix Venetian blinds.
Yes, some brands. Please ask.
15. Do we service any other areas?
Curtains can be sent to us by courier and will be returned the same way.
Hooks and pins should be left in the curtains. Curtains should be packed into card board boxes, not too tightly and sent to Curtain Clean at 17 Alach St. Greerton Tauranga.
Please include a fact sheet with your information including daytime contact numbers and email address.
We can advise a price on receipt of the curtains and before cleaning. Any estimates given by phone or email prior to measuring are just that and confirmed prices can only be available after measuring.
An email before dispatching the curtains is helpful to ensure we know that they are coming and how many parcels. Curtains will need to be paid for before return either by cheque or direct debit to our bank account.
16. Do we have agents outside the Western Bay?
